Doula scholarships

We are thrilled to share that through a generous donation from one of our past clients, we’re offering several scholarships for births in 2024. Scholarship recipients will receive either a partial or full scholarship for doula services. This scholarship will allow people who may otherwise not be able to afford a doula to receive the emotional support, education, hands-on techniques, and physical presence that we provide as your doulas.

how to apply

We are now accepting applications for births in 2024 occurring in Salt Lake County. To apply, please fill out this form. We will be accepting applications until all scholarship spots are filled. If your application is selected, we will contact you to set up a consultation via Zoom to ensure we are the best fit for you and your upcoming birth.

the story of the scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through a very generous donation from one of our past clients. After we supported them for their birth and postpartum time, they shared that they would like to gift doula services to other families who might want a doula, but couldn’t afford one. Here are a few words from the family who made this donation:

“We created this birth scholarship because we deeply value the services Heart Tones Birth provides. Throughout the entire process of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, we felt incredibly supported emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. The Heart Tones doulas’ unique life experiences and talents have prepared them perfectly for doula work and we feel so fortunate to have connected with them, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. With our families far away, our doulas became our surrogate family, providing the necessary care we wish all new parents, especially birthing parents, could have. That is why we decided to create this scholarship—we want as many people to experience the transformative care that Heart Tones Birth Services provides, regardless of socioeconomic status.”

what a doula is…and isn’t

As your doulas, we provide emotional support, physical comfort, and an objective viewpoint to you before and during labor and birth. We also help you get the information you need to make informed decisions. As your doulas, our whole purpose is to serve you and your baby.

Important: Doulas are not medical providers, and we do not do any medical tasks such as performing cervical exams, taking blood pressure, diagnosing conditions, giving medical advice, or delivering the baby. We can give you information, but if you have a medically specific question or concern we will always refer you back to your OBGYN or midwife.

We support births occurring in hospitals, at birth centers, and at home with a midwife present. We support all types of birth, including medicated, unmedicated, and surgical (c-section) births. We’re here to support you and the choices you make for your birth!

You can read more about all of our doulas here.

So, ready to apply? We can’t wait to hear from you!
